Edward Thomas, President of SRM Architects, has over 30 years’ experience in the Architectural Industry, and has been a Partner at SRM Architects Inc. since 2006. Originally from Edmonton Alberta, Edward completed the Architectural Technology program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, and subsequently completed the Bachelor of Architecture Program at Carleton University in Ottawa Ontario in 1992. Edward is a member of the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA), and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC).
Over the course of his career, Edward has acted as the Architect and Partner-in-Charge on many successfully completed projects across Ontario. He has a particular interest in sustainable design, having acted as Architect and Partner-In-Charge on SRM’s Passive House and LEED® accredited office and residential buildings. This experience has allowed Edward to develop an intricate knowledge of Municipal Processes, and the regulations set forth by the Ontario Building Code.
In his day-to-day role, Edward oversees SRM’s Team to ensure each project’s design meets the unique needs of the Client, Users, and the Site. Edward uses his knowledge and experience to uncover possible concerns early on in a project, and work with the Project Team to find prompt and resourceful solutions.
In his free time, Edward is involved in his community through a variety of volunteer positions. He is the Past Chair of the Elora Centre for the Arts (a local charitable organization and unique community resource for the Arts), and Past Chair of the Groves Memorial General Hospital Governance Committee. Edward’s current volunteer involvement includes work with Portage (a residential drug addiction rehabilitation treatment program for Ontario youth), as well as other local charitable organizations.
